WHAT WE DO

The family of a local volunteer firefighter has his home built in an area where there is a big risk of mudslide and damage to the home. They are unable to afford a construction project and were faced with mudslides from last year which has brought fear of future events and the risk to the family.

The back of the house has a 5m (15ft) high and 9m (27ft) wide wall of mud that can collapse any moment in the rainy season. There are other homes built on the mud and land above which are also at risk, so this will help to protect that land from collapsing.

Due to the rainy season on its way, we want to help save the multiple homes and protect the family from a possible mudslide or burial caused from the slide. The project will be to build a retaining wall to keep them safe and to keep the mud stable behind the home.

The overseas missionary teams will be doing the volunteered labor for the building of the wall. However, we need people who can sponsor or donate materials or money to fund this project before the rainy season fully kicks in, which is in the next coming month. The estimated cost for the project is 3 to Q5,000 or 5 to $7000 This cost will cover the cement, concrete mix and iron bars (re-bar) for iron pegs to stabilize the mud slope.

We constantly have disasters, this is no new news.  However, when working with teams, tools are lost, broken, buried, or worn-out.  We seek anyone who would like to be involved or help supply new tools for new occasions that happen each year.  Shovels, Pick Axes, Hoes, Sledge hammers or heavy hammers are tools that are quickly destroyed.  Other tools are needed as well, such as wheel barrels, hack saws, wood saws and on some occasion electric power tools are needed.  Our biggest need is for a gas operated electric generator for providing electricity where there is none.  The other is a gas or electric waterpump for dirty water for purpose of pumping out contaminated water from disaster sites.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Visit our "Support" page, or click here.

scholarship kids

We support local children from the community in school supplies, or studies.  We seek families who have the heart for children to better their education, which in return opens a door to their future.

We supply photos of the children, the family and a report card as to their progress.  You may establish a relationship or remain anonymous.  We also are partnered with Educations and More (see Partners) if you would like to work through them.

May God touch your heart to help sponsor a child.

sharing the Gospel through the sport of triking

The trike originated from your average junkyard bike that no one believes to have a purpose or is no longer seen as something v aluable or worthy. In the same way, as sin has done to man, so has rust and years of use done to these old bicycles. No one sees them as worthy of being redeemed. Just as the trikes have been restored, now have purpose and can be used for many good things, so too is the vision of God for the lost state of man. The old converted to the new as the Holy Spirit works in us, making all things new.

Trike evangelism is extreme, just as Jesus is extreme - gaining one soul at a time, going against all odds, to go the extra mile, mountain to mountain to find that lost sheep. Triking is an attention-grabbing sport, which opens the door for us to minister to curious onlookers. This gives teens another weekend option other than drugs, drinking and mischief - it is a healthy way to expend their energy, frustrations and, at the same time, receive prayer, ministering and healing, as well as a whole lot of fun.

evangelism

As an organization, Mi-Reto Ministries is involved in several types of evangelism. One of our focuses is outreaches. We train church members and willing volunteers about ministry techniques through practical application. During an outreach, we fulfill a need in the community while teaching volunteers about sharing the Gospel, caring for the poor and serving others as Christ served the church.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

When Jesus issued the Great Commission, He did so with ALL authority. It was to every believer. It was to His church. He issued this Commission—not as a challenge, choice or suggestion. It was not an option but an obligation.

God’s Word is explicit. To ensure we don’t miss the Great Commission, He presented it at least five times in the first five New Testament books:

  • Matthew 28:18-20

  • Mark 16:15

  • Luke 24:46-49

  • John 20:21

  • Acts 1:8

In all these passages, the central theme is crystal clear: preach the Gospel of peace to everyone. There are many other passages that instruct us to preach, preach, preach:

  • Mark 1:38

  • Luke 4:43

  • Romans 15:20

  • 2 Corinthians 10:16

  • 2 Timothy 4:2

This is the reason that Mi-Reto Ministries exists—to glorify God in obeying the Great Commission by going into all the world and proclaiming the Gospel to all creation. We seek to accomplish this through television, radio, the internet, books, magazines, pamphlets, curriculum, seminars, etc.

As God blesses , we plan to grow. As we grow, we encourage you to become a part of what God is doing in Guatemala. We invite you to become a Partner in this ministry. There are many ways to partner with us, and we hope that you will consider being a Mi-Reto accomplice. For more information on this possible partnership, click here.

The genesis of the project

Work began in 2007 after Hurricane Stan.

And so the hard work begins. Our dream of having a docking station for missionaries, as well as an active workshop and training centre. We started off with only a few tools, making slow progress in building the well. This well would provide the community with water for whenever a catastrophe hits Panajachel.

Since then, we have built three wells in other locations as alternative water sources.

The garden

Also in 2007, after the construction of the well.

The hole that was left in the yard due to the construction of the well was converted into a Koi fish pond. The rocks that were excavated during construction went into the building of the waterfall that supplies oxygen to the Koi fish. This project was inspired for two purposes: providing the community with a secondary supplement of fish for food, as well as offering the building of a pond system in houses and hotels in the community. This raises the retail value of properties and results in economic growth in the surrounding area.

Construction in the community

Ongoing project

We are faced with situations where people have living conditions that are below human standards. Through donations, we are able to build homes, put on new roofs, or give them concrete floors to replace mud floors. In some cases, they have received their very first indoor bathroom versus the outhouse they have been living with. This all to be used to form relationships, and through these, we are able to sow into their lives Kingdom truths.

women's ministry

The women's ministry started in 2008 and it has been growing ever since. It was started due to the fact that many women in Guatemala experience physical and psychological abuse. There was a necessity for them to know the love of the Father. A lot of women grew up without a father and have never experienced love from a father before. There was an opportunity to empower them to the word of God to show them they are strong and that they do not have to depend on others. Mi-Reto Ministries helps the women by trying to fund scholarships for them to provide for their children by finishing their degrees. We also assist them with food and clothes for the children and scholarships for the children's education. We also offer psychological therapy for the women and the children, free of charge. We have a sewing workshop for the women to learn how to sew and make a living.

Any donations or assistance would be appreciated. Click here for more images.

children's ministry

Every Thursday and Sunday, Mi-Reto Ministries offers a Bible study for children from the ages 2 and up. We have different levels and Bible programs suitable to the different ages. We teach them the Truth of the Gospel according to their age. We also do dramas, games and songs in order to cement the message. We are also attempting to send our Bible school teachers to an annual congress in order to develop their spiritual growth and maturity. At this congress, the teachers learn specific concepts in order to train and assist the children in their Biblical growth. We would appreciate any possible funding, sponsorship or donation for this endeavour.

It all started with a dream. A dream to provide missionaries with something better than simply a stone to rest their heads... A place where they can rest, find shelter and stay. This establishment is faith-based and by the seed sown by cheerful givers. We also want to establish a place for training and equiping, where we teach missionary teams and volunteers to be true disciples of Christ. We aim to do this through intensive Bible studies and training to willing participants. We want to equip the saints, not only with Biblical truths and the application thereof in everyday community life, but work skills that will give them an advantage in working with the community. This dream was birthed in our hearts many years ago through the many hearts on fire to serve God's Kingdom - the desire to use God's provision of funds and resources to go back to the community as the disciples were shown to distribute to the needy. This is based on this dream is slowly becoming a reality.

Mi-Reto also believes in the ministry of food. The lost in this world do not need the Bible to be forced on them - they need relationships that develop into discipleship.  One of the ways to establish relationships is through food donations. We receive food donations from cheerful givers and then take these donations to those in need. While sqtisfying their physical hunger, Mi-Reto also satisfies their spiritual hunger by feeding them pieces of the Gospel. This discipleship is more sustainable, since it is based on the foundations of a long-term relationship and not just a quick-fix Gospel message.

mission teams

{ 10 }

Mi-Reto is also involved with mission teams from around the world. The teams arrive in Guatemala and are integrated nto several projects, including the triking and the various construction projects. This is paralleled with Scripture-based teachings from Ben. These teachings challenge the stability of their foundations in Christ while leading them to place where they are established in the Truth.

Mi-Reto's youth has a burning passion for evangelism as well. The youths have alternative methods of reaching the lost: they use the gift of dancing their Heavenly Father has imparted to them. They dance in various styles, including modern dancing techniques such as Dubstep. These methods appeal to the youth as well as to the adults, while all being done for the glory of God. The dances also take the form of a drama, which allows the Holy Spirit to strum the heart strings of the audience. Clicking on the image will take you to a YouTube video of one of their performances.

giving to the community

We do outreach to the community and desire not to present ourselves with empty hands.  So in this petition we see donations of shoes, toys, or school supplies to give out to the children or families. We prefer that the articles provided not be the broken, destroyed, and falling apart, we would like it to be an effort of things sent to be of good standing or new. Contact us about any possible donations by clicking here.
